All About Uranus in Astrology

Detailed interpretations of Uranus, the God of heavens.

Uranus, God of the sky and the heavens, is the ruler of Aquarius. In Astrology, the energies of Uranus are electric and crammed with change. Uranus is forward-looking. It balks at tradition, and celebrates originality and individuality. Uranus is associated with technology, innovation, discovery, and all that is progressive.

Uranus’ glyph, or symbol, reveals the cross (matter) over the circle (spirit). The two semi-circles on the sides represent receptivity. Note that the glyph of Uranus includes an inverted Venus!

Uranus is a planet that represents change, modern technology and innovative thoughts and ideas. This is a planet that rules progression where conservative and traditional ideas are broken from the shackles. Uranus is also associated with your intuitive and investigative energies. When not properly placed in your natal chart it is likely to disrupt your routine life and can cause untold chaos and worries in life. Uranus is a slow moving planet in our solar system and it stays in a single zodiac house for almost seven years. Presently it is placed in the fiery sign of Aries.

Its placement in the chart shows the areas in your life where you rebel against and find difficulty to get along. That particular piece of your life would be totally unpredictable. Uranus takes almost your entire lifetime to come once around the zodiac sky. That would be around 40 years or so to get to the opposite house of your birth house and this explains the mid-life crisis we all encounter in our 40's. This is a planet that helps us to arise and get into action. In general Uranus placement stirs action in that particular area of your life.

On the up side, Uranus is associated with enlightenment, progressiveness, objectivity, novelty, and ingenuity. Negative expression of Uranus is rebelliousness without a cause and irresponsibility.

When Uranus is not developed, it reacts; but when natives are truly in tune with its energies, Uranus is highly intuitive. It represents the spark of intuition that spurs invention. We can see Uranus as the intuition that sparks further studies or investigation.

In the chart, the position of Uranus by sign will be shared with other people in the same generation due to the comparatively slow movement of Uranus in the heavens. By house, the position of Uranus shows where individuals look to stir things up, put a new spin on situations, and go against established thought or order. Uranus aspecting other planets in the chart color those energies with some willfulness, quirkiness, and originality. Where we find Uranus in the chart is where we see some refusal to blend in with others (and situations), and some erratic life patterns.
